Opposition coalition, A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) is looking to the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) to act following President Bharrat Jagdeo’s imposition of a four-month suspension on CNS TV6 but they might have quite a wait.
APNU’s Policy and Manifesto Committee members Lance Carberry and Carl Greenidge addressed the issue at their weekly news briefing on Monday.
Greenidge said they regard the explanation for the timing of the suspension as “spurious and unacceptable” and added that they would be looking to see what GECOM does.
“This pertains to the fairness of the electoral system, it’s part and parcel of the electoral system that says you can only have a vibrant and fair electoral system if all parties, all actors are given a fair opportunity to air their views, to debate and to be provided with information. This is clearly calculated to limit the non-government supporters’ access to the public,” the former PNC Finance Minister said. Continue reading
