L to R -Sliver – Kiplagat, Kenya , Gold – Kiprop, Kenya, Bronze – Matthew Centrowitz, USA

Matthew comes from a long history of family in sports which has strong roots in Guyana through his Grandfather, Colin Bannister, Mother, Beverly Bannister Centrowitz and sister, Lauren Centrowitz all athletes with substantial accomplishments in the Guyana and the US.

His father Matthew Centrowitz Sr, also a former US record holder  (still standing ) and 2 time Olympian with medals and current track and field coach at Washington University also adds to the mix of “athletic” talent , immediately brought to the table, with Matthew’s abilities and accomplishments in track and field this year which has made so many of us proud.

Guyanese and Americans can be proud alike and know that Matthew knows his Guyanese roots and heritage and is proud to be called Guyanese too.

Go Matthew and know that we are all very proud of you.
