US embassy warns its citizens ahead of elections

With the upcoming elections scheduled for Monday the U.S. Embassy is cautioning all U.S. citizens in Guyana to stay alert. It is common for the US embassy to send alerts to its citizens during elections, wars and civil unrest.
According the US Embassy previous elections have led to incidents of increased criminal activity and violence in Guyana.

The embassy added that in the days before, during, and after the election, “you should monitor local media, avoid congested areas or areas where demonstrations are taking place or have been scheduled, and always travel with a charged cell phone.”   Read more
