ONE HAND CAN’T CLAP

By Ewalt “Waltie” Ainsworth                12-12- 2011

It takes two to tango and right now, the Ramotar Presidency is suffering from a slight hangover the morning after the night before.   Over the years, the last two decades, they have become addicted to doing as they like in Parliament, running rough-shod over the Corbin led administration.  There has been a change of the guards and the call has gone out already, for “shared governance”.  Participation in the budget planning is the first step because one hand cannot clean fish, grate coconut, ketch bed bugs and or clap.

Some operatives in the APNU are up in arms against Khemraj Ramjattan for the position of Speaker.  In my estimation, he would make a better Prime Minister and reserve the speaker-ship for a Faith or a Debbie or even a Theresa for that matter.  The position of Speaker is within the grasp of all these women, singularly and collectively and would be an asset to Ramotar as he stumbles, bumbles, grumbles and tumbles head over heels.  It is lonely at the top and the inner man, the inner strength, is restricted and restricting.

A run-off election may be a heartbeat away because incompetence is yeasting hour by hour, day by day.

The Guyanese community needs solutions to the myriad of problems in all sectors of the society.  This is no time to blame and do a disappearing act.  Ramotar has to rent a tile, be visionary in outlook and get down to the business of functional cooperation with all the political entities.  He has to carefully look at the (id)entities and embrace them, make a pepperpot rather than a dahl.

A pepperpot, especially this time of year, is vital.  Guyana has six different peoples, – and admixtures of all of them – and you have to be everything to everyone, all at the same time, forever and ever, world without end;  Amen.

Pepperpot also lasts a long time quite unlike dahl that will ferment and get sour and ‘wuk yuh belly.’

One hand cannot clap and perhaps you may have been able in the past to bribe, curry favour and insensitive some offices and officials.  That era is over. You have to have all encompassing think tanks, committees, programs that are all inclusive and not conclusive based on race.  Mr. Ramotar will also have to keep the door and windows open and leave the Blackberry on so that at the drop of every hat, there is consultation and diverse views.  When Jagdeo left, he took the recipe for roti and forgot to tell you that one hand can’t clap it either.

The international community is also watching to see how you interact, act, react and contact all the peoples and races.  They want to know how you will forge genuine growth and development.  They want to know how you will embrace and govern between betwixt sand among the regions and not continue to divide along racial lines.  Regional organizations like CARICOM, may not have said anything in terms of congratulations but be assured, your Presidency is in a fish bowl.  And you know one hand cannot clean a cuffum, bangamary, pbasha, curass or flonder.

Make that call, wide-up; draw on the talents of all the affected and afflicted parties and this Christmas will be so much better based on the metrics of shared governance.

    MERRY XMAS

Although now I get used to wine or whisky
Yes I miss me lang lang tall glass of mauby
I miss the sweet bunjaal of the lamb curry
And the camaraderie of friends and family
And can’t wait for me momma to call
With some plain rice and good ol’ dhall
Although some complain it makes them sick
I love me sweet good ol’ loud Indian music
And the cook up and the ever sweet pepper pot
In a land of sunshine no matter it get very hot
Although I lived over 40 years in Canada
I miss my very forever beautiful Guyana
My navel string is buried deep in Nabaclis
We have some problems I have to confess
With all the nice six peoples living in peace at last
Let bygones be bygones and forget the bloody past
Let’s hope we can eradicate all the nasty racial slime
With contentment politically and a life free of crime
Put our tired shoulders to the wheel
Bring back Guyana on an even keel
As once said by our indomitable leader Cheddi
One nation, one people working for one destiny

    Wishing you all a
Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year!!!
    From the Datt’s family
