Guyanese Strategic Culture – Leaders Levering Landscapes

By Ivelaw Lloyd Griffith

This Strategic Culture Findings Report, authored by Ivelaw Lloyd Griffith, is influenced
by a working group that held a workshop in Miami on October 7, 2011. The workshop
included six prominent scholars on Guyanese history, geography, economics, politics,
foreign policy, and military affairs. In addition to Dr. Griffith, the experts were Drs.
George Danns, Mark Kirton, Perry Mars, Desmond Thomas, and Nigel Westmaas.

The author wishes to thank Bradley Porter and his team for all workshop arrangements
and for invaluable assistance in preparing and delivering this Report. Thanks also to all
workshop participants for their contributions, which made the Guyanese Strategic Culture workshop a notable success.

Appreciation also is extended to: York College Chief Librarian Njoki Kinyatti and Assistant Library Professor Anamika Dasgupta and Associate Library Professor Di Su for securing some of the research material; Assessment Coordinator Shao-Wei Wu and Analyst Craigon Campbell of the York College Office of Institutional Research and Assessment for preparing the Figures; and Assistant Provost Holger Henke for helpful comments on the draft of the Report.

The views expressed in this Findings Report are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of the US Government, US Department of Defense, US Southern Command, FIU-ARC, Florida International University, York College of The City University of New York, or the institutions of any of the other scholars mentioned earlier.
