Alliance For Change
As Guyanese engage in Emancipation observances this year, the Alliance For Change (AFC) urges all Guyanese to reflect on the true state of our freedom.
The AFC notes that this year the observances fall at a time when Linden is caught up in the throes of mourning for three of their sons, whose lives were snuffed out as the people of Linden demonstrated in a manner synonymous with the rights of free men.
In no democratic society where freedom truly exists would men and women be prevented from exercising and enjoying basic human rights. The respect for and guarantee of human rights is the hallmark of a truly free society. When people have their rights taken away, then they can no longer claim to be free. read more….

I am truly disturbed by the situation that is beheaded my native land it appears as though someone some people want to take us back to dead things that is buried please, let show and stand up that we are for all people and not slavery
With a name as Shabazz I thought you perhaps had some understanding of the struggles and sacrifice of the widow of the late Meger Evers endured during and after her husband’s assassination. This champion of a woman, is what the cause and struggle of the people of Linden are fighting to achieve. However, Al Shabazz, I sort of understand a little of your frustration even though you have not elaborated much or offer any solution to the mayhem in Guyana. But, try as you may, you cannot wish this away because Guyana’s upheavel is but a very small sampling of racial strifes we see around the world these days. Even though some are in the form of religion, they have targetted people of all cultures.
However, because we are such a tiny country with less than a million people, our problems are far more magnified than other nations. This in itself, should not have gotten to where it is right now if there was truly a sincere effort to resolve the ‘racial divide’ we now have in Guyana.
Also, all this talk of people living together as one is only “hypocrisy” by those among us who do not and cannot understand the struggles of the ‘underclass’. What has happened in Linden and has been happening for many, many years, in Guyana, is a gross insensativity to the hard-working and struggling poor. Afterall, you have Government Officials, and Private Corporation Personnels making more money a month than well- educated, trained official in the United States. (I have my facts to back that up). In fact, Guyana has gone through an evolution of GREED, which is tantmount to insurmountable insanity to say the least.
Regrettabilty, this situation only position the poor in a more difficult position than ever envisage. However, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel in situation like these because only through struggles and sacrifices that dictators are toppled and people exercise their rights to freedom.
Finally, Al Shabazz, your disquiet for the mention of ‘Slavery’ is a little disconcerting. Every nation in this world has a creed it follows and to tell a people that his belief is irrevelant is ubsurd. Similarily, it would be out of place to tell a Jew to forget his past or to tell a Christian that his God is unreal.
The word is ‘absurd’ not ubsurd. I got carried away alittle bit. You know why?
And also, Betty Shabazz’s husband was Malcom X and not Meger Evers. Sorry about that folks.
