Gov’t calls off meeting with Region 10 reps; security forces taking control of roadways

As the security forces began gradually taking control of key road thoroughfares in Linden, the Guyana government called off talks that were planned with representatives of the Region 10 administration.

Regional Chairman, Sharma Solomon expressed disappointment with the central government’s decision to shelve the talks until a later date because of “other matters.”

“I am disappointed. I think the nation is disappointed. The nation was expecting a resolution to this matter and we did our part by allowing people to be hopeful and giving the impression that the talks were very progressive,” he told Demerara Waves Online News (www.demwaves.com).

The two sides have already agreed to the terms of reference for a bipartisan technical committee to study the electricity sector and decide whether the now suspended increase in tariffs from July 1 are feasible.  [more]

Why is Sharma Solomon, chairman of region No 10 expressing the disappointment at cancellation of talks he semms so badly to want. Why is he as the chairman of the region not calling off the protestations that have resulted in the closure of one Bauxite company. He is contributing to the grass eating economy, if the economy does good it will be to the benefit of the Lindeners too and the whole country. But blockage or no blockage when doom’s day arrives all will perish. Burnham used to say to his fellow country men “PRODUCE OR PERISH.” his words will come to pass as we witness the MAD Politics in Guyana now being encouraged by the present crop of political Psychophants.

cyril “strong words” of condemnation…BURNHAM was no fool in saying “produce of perish” but it was a bit of a “doomsday” call !FORBES was a QC (queens council) and so was CHERIE BLAIR….TONY BLAIRS mentor !
In volatile situations “silence is golden” …. the horse has already bolted and three people are dead….lets be silent as the
authorities try to resolve a very “confrontational” situation.

Talks are talks and the “weapon” of politicians…so lets observe
a few minutes silence until things are back to normal.
    peace and love

Yes This is all we can do from where we sit stand or rule. We have put the Politicians 65 of them in that August house of Parliament and are responsible for them. Why today in the 21 st Century we must pelt stones and other missiles at our countrymen in Wismar and Linden when our other folks are enjoying the results of their good or bad actions elsewhere in the world. Are we drifting back to the Stone age, my brother? Why in Country’snd God’s Name do we have to be called upon to protest which is our right in this day and age. Can our leaders not think and respect us are we still in the gutter politics and are our leaders taking us forward. They calles us out toi face the music, few of us are bold enough to do beyond their callings and now death has resulted and yet no sign of relenting. Government everywhere in this world at least do not fail to use their massive Power which the populace have given them. It is often said that the Power of the Government is like that of the “One eyed Giant” and only the People’s Power is the Other Eye” which we use at the Elections time to rid or keep them there. We must maintain the Silence but for how long. Our Civilization has not much patience for waiting and while people like Norton and Sharma can wait because their salaries aren’t cut, the ordinary folks who lost jobs and were sent home are now hurting. Our Silence at this timewill be suicidal because our leaders have taken us down that road!

I support you “non-silence” stance and enjoy your “antagonistic”
writings … more please…NOAM CHOMSKY as US linguist was a promoter of opposition ! a good oposition is better than a bad government.
