    Dear Friend/Educator,

    Greetings! I would like to introduce our team and association to you. A group of graduates from Cyril Potter’s College of Guyana met in New York earlier this year to organize a long overdue Alumni Association. We are establishing an alumni body called the Guyana Trained Teachers’ Alumni Association. Our membership is open to alumni of the Cyril Potter College of Education, the Lilian Dewar College of Education, the University of Guyana and the In-service Teacher Training Program who are presently residing in the United States and Canada. Membership is also extended to all other Guyanese educators residing in North America.

    Our first meet-and-greet Reunion Event is scheduled to take place at 9:00 PM on Friday November 2nd, 2012 at St. Gabriel’s Hall in Brooklyn, NY. We anticipate an awesome time at this long awaited gathering.

    Our objectives include:
    •Preserving the bond of friendship among former and current Guyanese Educators;
    •Offering a network for finding and contacting former Guyanese Educators overseas;
    •Identifying, raising awareness and supporting the educational needs and achievements of the children and Educators of Guyana;
    •Volunteering expert and professional resources from among the alumni to help Educators keep abreast of the latest developments in education and technology;
    •Promoting the legacy of Guyanese Educators;

    The most important element we need at this juncture…is YOU. We need your input and support. If you are eligible and are interested in joining, please let us know by providing your name, contact information e-mail address and/or a contact number to guyanateachersna@aol.com. Do you have a skill or resource that you would like to volunteer? Please send feedback.

    Warmest Regards and we hope to hear from you soon,

    Founding Members

    I’m so sorry I won’t be able to make it. Wish you guys all success with this.
    The name Renee Parris looks familiar. Did that person attend Cyril Potter in 74 – 76? Is that person a male? I knew a Paris guy in my Module!

      Hi Rena,

      A pleasant good morning! Really glad to hear from you and excited to have you on board. Please e-mail guyanateachersna@aol.com and feel free to share the e-mail address with everyone; If you would like to be reached by phone, please include that number in your e-mail (to guyanateachersna@aol.com ). I hope that you will be able to attend.

      You just provoked so many good memories with so many familiar names. Many of the founders are from the batch after yours and we lived on campus. Ms Phillips was in charge of the ladies residence and Mr. Crawford was in charge of the men’s. You may also remember Ms. Duke, Ms. Taylor and Mrs. Cholmondeley. Mrs. Doreen Chung (wife of President Arthur Chung) was the guest speaker at our graduation.

      We forward to hearing from you and meeting you.

      Rita.

      Hi Rena, I was a lecturer at CPCE ( 1990- 2001) and was fortunate to work with some of the educators you mentioned. Ms Balbahadur was the principal after Ms. Witherman. Sorry to say the couor of the unifors changed when all three departments merged ( Nursery, Primary and Secondary) Now it is blue blazer ( part of nursery), grey skirt/pants ( secondary) and white shirt (primary). There is an addition of a red tie/ scarf.
      CPCE and institution to be proud of….

        Hi Juliet:
        I cannot believe it is almost a year passed and now I came back to the CPCE site. I live in Alberta Canada and too far away to attend functions but will try to touch base in this forum to see how everyone is doing. There is none of my batch mates nor any trained teachers from Guyana around here. I guess I am the one who ran the farthest!!Best wishes to the group and continue the good work.

    This is a massive move! I support this 100%, and hope that as educators we can make this a success. My batchmates (1976-1978 Module B) come on down and let’s reunite!

    I accidentally discovered this website, and I am quite excited to have learnt that this organization exists: this has been long overdue. Unfortunately, I missed the last reunion however I would like to know when is the next reunion: Better believe it, I shall be present. I graduated from the batch of 1976-1978, lived in the USA for approximately 31 years, and has completely lost communication with all batch-mates. (Wilton Martin)
