Phagwah Day pictures in a Diverse Guyana
27 March 2013 – (Demerara Waves) – Guyanese of all walks of life joined their Hindu brothers and sisters in observing Phagwah-a festival of colours to usher in spring.

While many gathered at temples or stayed in their communities, showering each other with a liquified and powdered kaleidoscope of colours; others were busy catching up on kite sales for the Easter holiday to observe the resurrection of Christ.
At Parade Ground, a small group of Afro-Guyanese activists poured libation on a spot that they have identified as what they believe is the rightful location for the 1823 Slave Revolt monument. Government is pushing ahead with construction of its monument site near the Georgetown Seawall.
Their ritual was conducted literally a stone’s throw away from where Hindus burnt Holika under the brilliant full moonlight of Tuesday night.The activists say their libation was purely coincidental and was not a counter-ritual to the Hindu activity less than one day earlier.
