Thank you for this historical overview on Guyana, Dr. Odeen Ishmael. It certainly gives me another perspective, with so much more details, to add to Mohan Ragbeer’s The Indelible Red Stain (in two volumes) about Guyana. TFS.

    Wow wow
Started reading …..until my eyes were exhausted….this is the history I should have been learning in my formal education….in addition to the English European one I was forced to study….history teaches fools….good bad and ugly history.
    Good history is popular history.
Bad and ugly history is the one that disagrees with the popular….

Determined by ones rationality…how we view things….

Guyana’s history (recorded history) not unlike American history spans a mere 500
years……one must go back further delve deeper to understand why we are here.

    Our purpose in life.

Of all the empires the Romans were one of the longest lasting…..a mere 2000+ years…..
On conquering a nation state they adopted the GODS of their new conquest
(Romans had many gods) and by doing so they were able to rule with impunity.

However not wishing to stray from the fact that reading these pages and pages of Guyana s history is self fulfilling……with gratitude to Dr Modern Ishmael

    I thank you

This part about our history is worth knowing, too.

A Kennedy-C.I.A. Plot Returns to Haunt Clinton: By TIM WEINER

WASHINGTON — It was a small clandestine operation in a little South American country three decades ago. President Kennedy ordered the Central Intelligence Agency to subvert the country’s leader. The leader fell, and the C.I.A.’s men quietly left town.

Time passed, and the wheels of history turned. The cold war ended, and with its end the fallen leader was elected President of what is now independent Guyana. United States law says it is time to unseal the secret documents that detail Kennedy’s plot against him.

But State Department and C.I.A. officials refuse to release them, saying it is not worth the embarrassment.

Keeping secrets can cause embarrassment too. In June the Clinton Administration prepared to send a new Ambassador to the little country — apparently unaware that the prospective nominee had helped to undermine the restored leader.
