A bird watchers paradise indeed….but I still prefer the unfeathered birds of paradise.

Thanks for that spectacle video of the ibis of Guyana…I did enjoy the music also.

On my travels earlier I visited an Amerindian settlement in the ANDES mountains
Peru…a place called TIENGO MARIA near Amazon river…..it starts in PERU and empties into ATLANTIC near Belem in north BRAZIL.I was invited to dance with the Indians….yes to the same music in your video….hey it was amusing but enjoyable.
Think they were a “friendly” lot but there are some tribes that are hostile to outsiders…deeper in the Amazon….early 2014 my Peruvian friend and I will take
a journey of our lifetime….follow Amazon river route via Manaus into Atlantic
on a”luxury cruise” ….hammock cooking on board ..guess what is on menu….
    Yes Caiman ….alligator tail….

    Camera in hand of course.

Thanks for another expierence of the birds of Guyana….my idea of paradise !

Dmitri, The Scarlet Ibis of Guyana is a magnificent bird indeed and it’s gratifying to know that Guyana is blessed with so many beautiful beautiful creatures. Your poem was certainly a complement to the bird. Thanks for sharing.

And Kamptan, happy travels….I’m still to take one of those adventurous cruises up the Amazon. I’m sure you’ll have a lot of great photo ops on you trip next year. Have fun!

Dmitri, Loved your poem, I read it twice. I hope you have your poems in book form so that I could have a copy.

When I saw this, I couldn’t resist commenting. Not too long ago, I read ‘The Scarlet Ibis’ by James Hurst to several 9th graders. In preparation for the lesson, I did research on the scarlet ibis to help me gain insight into the story. I’m sure glad I did. I learned that the healthy scarlet ibis is scarlet in hue except for when it becomes old or sick. It then loses its vibrant hue. This bit of information was very helpful for the symbolism, imagery, and foreshadowing in this short and poignant story. Beautiful poem Mt Allicock. Thanks for sharing…

Thanks for sharing, Dmitri – very informative! My first and only encounter with the Scarlet Ibis was in downtown Toronto, Canada in the late 1960’s. It was the name of a Trinidad and Tobago night club. I learnt at the time that it was the national bird of T&T and it was on the coat of arms – but then, again, I am a Georgetown-boy and I did not see much of Guyana before being whisked away to Canada – I would not have guessed that there was a Scarlet Ibis presence in Guyana. Good job!!
