Very interesting indeed….”suicide as a form of freedom”…not surprising
either….certainly more acceptable than “suicide as a form of religion”
Jonestown et al….
Today UK terminally ill patients travel to Switzerland to be “injected”
as euphanasia (mercy killing) is illegal in UK…..it isn’t cheap either
£30.000 plus the fee….insurance companies must pay out after death.
Crazy world ! Crazy people !

Thanks NiNsee for that enlightening article. More evidence that our African ancestors were fighters.
NiNsee, I welcome you to Guyanese Online. Because of the difference in language, I have very little knowledge about Suriname and its history.
Often left out in the slave narrative are several things:
Most slaves were sold into slavery by their very own people. Blacks,Whites, and Asians alike.
Yes, there were black slave owners in America, too. A fact often covered up by those wishing to forget this.
And YES, white people did own white slaves – many Irish who came to America in the early years came as slaves. My husband is Irish American who hails from the south and though he is familiar with the history of Irish Americans, he has not looked into his ancestry to find out about their personal history.
Interestingly too, is that in African countries slaves were allowed to marry into the slave owning family similar to White slaves in America being allowed to marry into white slave owning families.
Slavery still exists and is still legal in many African countries today with Mauritania leading the pack with having the most slaves. India has the largest slave population when slavery is defined to include all exploited peoples – laborers (children and adults), sex workers, other.
http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/2821/before-the-civil-war-were-some-slave-owners-black
http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/awhhtml/awlaw3/slavery.html
Let’s get some perspective on the number of Blacks owning slaves and the difference between white indentured servants and black slaves.
Most slaves were NOT sold into slavery by their own. Arabs in their raids in East Africa and elsewhere did not differentiate among “kaffirs” in the 1400 years of their activity. Europeans in Africa also organised raids as a major activity. “Marrying into families” gives a false impression of equality. Black male slaves in the Middle East were most often castrated and that is why there isn’t a large number of their descendants there. Gigi speaks of “many” African countries but Mauritania and Sudan are particularly known because of the religious/racial oppression. It is nonsense to equate outcasts/class oppression and slavery in India whatever definition is used.
As I have said before, read Gigi’s outpourings with many grains of salt.

Today slavery is alive and kicking.
Sweat shops do exist….with multinational corporations exploiting cheapest labour resources in many parts of our world.
In UK there is a minimum wage which we fought a long and hard
battle for and won in my trade union days in UCW many moons ago.
Today that minimum wage is £6.16 per hour….which is legally
enforced….it will rise to £7.10 by 2017 which is above rate of inflation
running at 2% now.
With PAYE system of taxation any amount above yearly tax allowance
is taxable at 22%….also NIS (national insurance) is deducted (10%)
from yearly income.
UK tax on individual income is very efficiently collected and open to public scrutiny….my concerns are many “illegals” will work for less than this
minimum wage which is difficult to monitor/control…..”black economy”
However this is less than 1% and only temporary as when identified
employer/employee are prosecuted.
David Cameron stated quite clearly today that “aliens” (outsiders)(foreigners)
who invest in UK property must pay purchase tax 5% value and capital gains tax 55% when property sold for profit.
UK s corporation tax is now 20% and heading downward….
Ireland it 12% worlds lowest at moment.
Economics is no longer “rocket science” TAXATION is the WMDW
(weapon of mass distribution of wealth)
UK must build a bigger “middle class” today if it is to avoid another
recession (melt down) when next housing bubble burst …2008 a lesson
learnt….
My spin entirely
Forever the optimist…
Kamptan enjoyed your truthful comments above ….thanks.
Gigi
When Jews (minority rich mostly) were targeted by Hitler
Churchill suggested that they be sent to USA….even diverting
a shipload that was heading for Southampton. ….
Because of disclosure of official secret act this is all coming to
public light today….many war crimes are also being exposed today
Today bodies of mass graves area being discovered in Spain
as a result of Generalismo Franco s return to Spain from exile.
History ….the true history is being re-written / exposed today.
At 70 with my exit pending I will leave with a cynical smile on my face.
Happily ever after….

I go along with your suggestion of “castration” of slaves.
I worked with many young srilankans most Tamil Tigers
listening to some stories of their battles in their guerilla warfare.
Many were recruited as minders in Harlem’s of Saudia Arabia
with castration as terms of contract in employment.
This is not “history” as am sure it continues today in the Arab/other
worlds……our world is one I will be happy to exit without the dream
of “heaven” with one hundred virgins…as “hell” is the here and now
world.
Thanks to you and Gigi for your contributions to humanity in your
comments.
Kamptan a human being in heart mind and soul.

Managed to read most of your attachments…if I may comment
“slavery” is not unlike “freedom” with complex meanings/interpretations…
both part of the history of humankind.
We are all born free but not born equal….society/circumstances change
our perceptions of both.
Today we enjoy our freedom thanks to social media internet et al…
What we don’t have a lot of is “time” to explore this freedom.
Since my retirement decade ago I have learnt more than my previous
60 years on the planet.
Hopefully in the next decade this process is repeated/excelled.
