Dave Martins now lives in Guyana and will be 80 years old this year. He writes a weekly column in Stabroek News and still performs at events in North America and the Caribbean. Welcome to the world of singer/songwriter Dave Martins, a Guyanese icon who has been making us laugh, reflect on our shortcomings, and take fierce pride in our Caribbean heritage for over five decades.
He’s produced over 100 songs, several advertising jingles, and an award-wining play. And with the creative ideas still flowing at the age of 75, he has no intention of slowing down. (Note: this article was written in May 2010)
Dave Martins grew up at Hague and Vreed-en-Hoop on West Coast Demerara; the third of four children and the only boy in the family.
He attended the Sacred Heart Primary School and later St. Stanislaus College, travelling the long journey by bus and ferry. He insists that he was a quiet student, instead of the prankster that one would have envisaged him to be.

Thanks to Dave Martins. He has served the musical world wonderfully. Many Guyanese have all his records/CD including me. Congrats to you Martin on reaching your 80th birthday. Hope you have many more in good health and keep on singing Dave; this is good for your longevity.
I remember my associating with Dave while the group called The Tradewinds of which he was the leader , owned & operated ” We Place ” in downtown Toronto , Canada .
