Captain the (PPP) Ship is Sinking

Desperation leads politicians to do and say strange things. These are desperate times for the once invincible PPP. We are hearing some very strange things from the PPP’s quarters. We recently heard that Moses Nagamootoo, in 2008, said that he was not Indian. That revelation by the PPP camp was followed by two other stunning revelations. First, it was revealed that Dr. Walter Rodney was a Pan Africanist who was proud of his African ancestry. Second, we hear from the PPP side that embrace of their ethnic identity by Eusi Kwayana, Tacuma Ogunseye, David Granger and David Hinds should be emulated by all Guyanese.

Seriously? This is double standard and political dishonesty of the highest order. Even from a desperate PPP, this one takes the cake. Maybe they have had the pollster do some polls for them that shows the Coalition winning the upcoming elections. Is the PPP’s ship sinking?  Continue reading

The Toffs And The Toughs

It serves as a fascinating insight to our predecessors in the last century. It was taken outside Lord’s cricket ground during an Eton V Harrow match.

(For our international readers, Eton and Harrow are two of the poshest and most expensive private schools in the UK. Our current London mayor and prime minster and quite a few of his cabinet went to Eton.)  The two ‘toffs’ Peter Wagner and Thomas Dyson were from Harrow and were waiting after the match to be picked up by Wagner’s father for a weekend in Surrey.

The other three boys were George Salmon, Jack Catlin, and George Young, 13-year-old pupils at the local Church of England primary school. They had been to the dentist that morning and then decided to skip school and hang around instead outside Lord’s, where the Eton v Harrow match offered money-making opportunities to any…

Literary colossus V.S. NAIPAUL says ISIS is now the Fourth Reich

A grotesque love of propaganda. Unspeakable barbarity. The loathing of Jews – and a hunger for world domination. In this stunning intervention, literary colossus V.S. NAIPAUL says ISIS is now the Fourth Reich

In a hard-hitting article in today’s Mail on Sunday, the revered novelist brands the extremist Muslim organisation as the Fourth Reich, saying it is comparable to Adolf Hitler’s regime in its fanaticism and barbarity.

Calling for its ‘military annihilation,’ the Trinidadian-born British writer says IS is ‘dedicated to a contemporary holocaust’, has a belief in its own ‘racial superiority,’ and produces propaganda that Goebbels would be proud of.   Continue reading

Guyana Elections: Jagdeo warns US visas will be hard to get if opposition elected

Jagdeo warns US visas will be hard to get if opposition elected

Former President Bharat JagdeoMonday, 30 March 2015 – Written by

Sunday’s rally marked the official commencement of the party’s election campaign ahead of the May 11 general and regional elections.

Former president Bharat Jagdeo told a rally in Kitty on Sunday that the opposition parties, if elected into power, will create adverse conditions which will force Guyanese to apply for visas in increasing numbers, thereby forcing the United States (U.S.) Embassy in Guyana to clamp down on visa distribution here.

As hundreds of Peoples Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) supporters, decked in their white and/or red tops, listened intently, cheering for him ever so often, the former president outlined several predictions which did not adduce evidence to substantiate.

Profile- Roy Brummell: Teacher, Artist, Folklorist – By Dr. Dhanpaul Narine

Roy Brummell is a man of many parts. He is a writer, teacher, folklorist and artist and if he is the mood he can even paint a house with many beautiful colors.

Roy was born at Dartmouth Village in the Essequibo coast of Guyana and he went to school there. His mom Burley and his dad Joel Headley Brummell worked hard to provide for and to educate the family. Roy attended St. Barnabas and Darmouth Government Schools. He said that his teachers played an important role in his life. Sidney Williams, the sports teacher, lived across the street and he would encourage Roy to take an active role in sports. Cyril Sewsankar was the reading teacher and he would send across reading materials that included magazines and newspapers and the Reader’s Digest.  Continue reading

Your US-Brazil Trade Assist: Doing Business with Brazil

Three Worlds One Vision

USA Trade with Brazil 2005-2014

USA Trade with Brazil 2005-2014
Source: Your US-Brazil Trade Assist

Finally…I have completed my yearly three-month project of updating my website featuring Your US-Brazil Trade Assist. For the most part, it’s tedious work—checking for broken links—but important for providing users with useful and current information.

Based on the US International Trade in Goods and Services January 2015, published on March 6 by the US Census Bureau, the above chart shows US trade with Brazil over the last ten years. Brazil is America’s ninth largest trade partner with total trade (imports and exports) in goods and services valued at US$72.8 billion, representing 1.8 percent of US trade with all countries. America’s top three trading partners are Canada (16.6%), China (14.9%), and Mexico (13.5%). As is evident in the chart, since 2008 US exports to Brazil far exceed its imports. Given Brazil’s weak economy, the contraction in exports in 2014…
