With a “slow motion coup” under way in Venezuela, John Pilger is interviewed for Telesur, the Latin American TV network, by Mike Albert.

Albert: Why would the United States want Venezuela’s government overthrown?

Pilger: There are straightforward principles and dynamics at work here. Washington wants to get rid of the Venezuelan government because it is independent of US designs for the region and because Venezuela has the greatest proven oil reserves in the world and uses its oil revenue to improve the quality of ordinary lives. Hello Villagers and Friends of Buxton.

We are pleased to share with you the Buxton-Friendship Express newsletter for the month of February 2015. We encourage you to share it with your family members and friends who may not be on our address list.

As you know, this year (2015), marks 175 years since our premier village was purchased by previously enslaved African labourers. We would like to encourage groups, particularly those in Buxton, to organize and promote events fitting this milestone. Let us show appreciation for the sacrifice, love and legacy from our ancestors!

In New York, we plan to have a 175th Anniversary Gala Banquet Celebration on May 16, 2015. Awards will be given to villagers for outstanding contributions and service to the community. There will be a keynote address, cultural presentations and a delicious assortment of traditional dishes. We would greatly appreciate your contribution and/or support. Well, Sir, for a political scientist you have taken too much liberty to pronounce the death sentence based on self-serving views of “political pundits”, all of whom I presume are “Chatrees”. I trust that you could find equally authoritative pronouncements by Dr. Cheddi (Joey) Jagan and Mr. Ralph Ramkarran, both of whom were PPP/C candidates in 2011, but who believe sincerely that a national coalition is the way to go.  Continue reading

Bollywood today spends millions copying from Hollywood, converts the stories for the Indian audience and then remakes that after a few years. The copy and the remake of the copy, with eminently forgettable songs, weak story lines and sexual images have resulted in Bollywood sinking to a new low.  Continue reading
