It’s easy for Granger to make the call to invest. He has to first ensure that there is proper accountability in various sectors and that the dishonest face the full force of the law. As it is many of us are already pouring money into Guyana through remittances and we are stretched to breaking point.

With regard to crime, the most obvious thing to be done is to reduce the need for business people and citizens to have large sums of money on their premises and their person. It’s about time that debit cards are used on a more widespread basis. The other related problem of course is that with so much of an underground economy people avoid bank transactions. Let them try bring down the VAT and see if things improve. Furthermore with such a small population and everyone knowing everyone else’s business, Guyanese know who the criminals are. No anonymous tip lines? Is there a need to recruit retired officers from abroad as was done ion Jamaica at one point?

Surujbally is one man. Refusing to participate in Local Government Elections is just playing into the hands of the new administration.Makes no sense.
