Grey is great: why hair is the last bastion of vanity
As Hillary Clinton said, hair signifies your hopes and dreams to the world. But now the grey gene has been identified, can we reclaim greyness as part of growing old(er) gracefully?
What dismal news that scientists (scientists!) have found the gene responsible for turning hair grey – or rather, the one that switches off so that hair loses its natural pigment. Of all the areas where those hard and expensively won skills might have been deployed, who cannot see it as a kind of betrayal that they have been devoted to the quest for a cure for greyness?
But then, hair matters, as Hillary Clinton sagely remarked back in 2001. “This is a life lesson my family did not teach me,” she told Yale students back when she was a mere senator. “Wellesley and Yale Law School failed to instil: your hair will send significant messages to those around you. What hopes and dreams you have for the world, but more, what hopes and dreams you have for your hair. Pay attention to your hair, because everyone else will.’’

Loved this article. Especially loved the following comment:
“Grey hair means the inexorable decline has begun, the countdown to incontinence pads and lalaland is under way. Worse, letting it happen without attempt at disguise is like staggering drunk out of the office. You don’t care who knows!”
~ So true. At least for me. I battle every three months with my greying hairs. Then I recently watched the documentary on 93 year-old fashion icon IRIS APFEL. Bam! We women see aging all wrong. Greying ladies, check out a preview at the following link:

I suspect Hillary has dyed her hair into oblivion. She’s 68 for crying out loud! No hair can survive the daily damage she has put hers through with all the toxic chemicals she has subject it to and still look like that. I have seen more than my share of old white women with terrible hair from literally bleaching it to death. Black women too have become bald from the chemicals used in straightening their hair regularly. What Hillary most likely has is a very good wig maker and a closet full of wigs. I just hope she isn’t hitting up ‘locks for love.’
Gigi: Enough about Hillary already …
– How about your man Trump and his goldilocks??
– He is older and uglier than Hillary
– Don’t hold back – Tell us what you know ….!!?!!
Trump was a no-show at this function – Hurt the President’s feelings.
Who wants a candidate for POTUS that looks like a bull-frog in heat, anyway??

“Grey hair means the inexorable decline has begun,…”
You cannot imagine how depressing this is to someone like me; with streaks of grey ever since I was conscious of styles like the “calabash cut”, “square back”, “brother Jackson” and “muff”.
But I do feel consoled by the thought that from the day I was born, I was aging and dying; and also by this neat verse from my dissolute years.
“A man is not old when his hair turns grey,
He still is not old when his bones decay,
But he is certainly heading for the long, last sleep,
When his mind makes appointments
Which his body cannot keep”.
