Hinduism – the enigma! It fits no known paradigm, so non-practitioner commentators and detractors have been having a field day to whip it. People, including Indian coconuts, such as Pankaj Mishra, are the poster boys for the haters; and these coconuts love the limelight.

The article below explains the mindset of Mishra (and the other similar coconuts, including Guyanese historian, Clem Seecharan) – ‘ pathological Hindu phobia and self-hate’ who is a ‘hater-in-chief of anything Indian’. Imagine Mishra writing that the emergence of Narendra Modi as PM (a year now in power, so we can judge) is worse than ISIS, Al Queda and the Taliban. http://www.firstpost.com/india/behind-pankaj-mishras-rants-a-pathology-of-hindu-phobia-and-self-hate-1772105.html

There are really three issues to address in order to understand Hinduism. Firstly, Hinduism has no founder such as Christianity, Islam and Buddhism (actually Buddha was a Hindu; it is his followers who created Buddhism). Secondly, the whole theory of a Aryan Invasion of India is a fake. Thirdly, Hindu is a name given to the people living across to the East of the river, Sindhu. The Persians transliterated Sindhu to Hindu, and it got stuck. It has nothing to with the ‘religion’.
Actually, the ‘religion’ (a misnomer) is really a philosophy of life, otherwise known as ‘Sanatana Dharma’ or ‘Eternal Dharma’. “Dharma” has no counterpart in English or any foreign language. A whole textbook can be written on the term and yet it cannot be pinned down. Simply, it is derived from the Sanskrit root “Dhr” = to hold or bind together. Thus Dharma is what holds the Cosmos together, at the macro level; and at the micro level, each of us (even inanimate objects) is invested with our unique dharma. It is what is required of us to contribute meaningfully to society. So, it can be seen as our duty, ethically, morally and ecologically carried out.

This is what the coconuts, trained in western education fail to understand about ‘Hindu’ philosophy. Incidentally, even an agnostic/atheist can be considered Hindu. There are some ‘Hindu’ philosophical systems that are atheistic. According to Wikipedia (while not an authority but cited for illustration) states:
“Hinduism is [not] a religion, but also a philosophy.[5][6] Among the various schools of Hindu philosophy, Samkhya, Yoga and Mimamsa while not rejecting either the Vedas or the Brahman ,[7] typically reject a personal God, creator God, or a God with attributes. While Samkhya and Yoga rejected the idea of an eternal, self-caused, creator God, Mimamsa argued that the Vedas could not have been authored by a deity.
Though some schools of thought view the path of the atheist difficult to follow in matters of spirituality it is still a valid one.[8] Hindu atheists accept Hinduism more as a “way of life” than a religion. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atheism_in_Hinduism

At this point it is necessary to address the issue of ‘Aryan Invasion” and why it is a myth/fake but it is taught in all school books (just as we learn about Arabic Numerals but in fact they are Indian Numerals). Couple of instructive videos will suffice (also, so you don’t have to read). https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=david+frawley+aryan+invasion&view=detail&mid=B95FD56F571E218FED80B95FD56F571E218FED80&FORM=VIRE

This one is a long lecture, but very instructive. Look at the first 20-25 mins, even longer as more and more evidence is produced. You will notice the lecturer is not an Indian, so he has no Indian agenda to promote. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=david+frawley+aryan+invasion&&view=detail&mid=24A0E1B5F8F951ABDF5224A0E1B5F8F951ABDF52&rvsmid=B95FD56F571E218FED80B95FD56F571E218FED80&fsscr=0&FORM=VDQVAP
