Bharrat Jagdeo

Bharrat Jagdeo

In a recording that has been circulated widely on social media, Jagdeo told an attentive gathering that currently in Guyana, “there’s an assault on our democracy, there’s an assault on people of Indian origin, there’s an assault on supporters of the PPP (People’s Progressive Party).
What we thought would never return to Guyana, in just one short year has returned with full force, and even worse in some regards than the Burnham era.”

He spoke of a state of affairs where people’s transported lands are being “snatched” and “140 new taxes were increased”. This development, he disclosed, has been targeting the rural poor, who are mainly the supporters of the PPP.

“Our country has taken a turn for the worse. It’s something that we have to live with, but I want to say to you we’re going to work hard, and whenever the elections come again, we’re going to take back Guyana…we’re going to take it back from these people,” Jagdeo said.
But according to a statement issued by Government, the claim that there is an “assault on people of Indian origin” is despicable, without any basis and a complete figment of Mr. Jagdeo’s imagination.

On the contrary, the policies of the Coalition Government are designed to achieve the good life for all Guyanese, not a handpicked few as was the case under the PPP regime which was rejected by the Guyanese electorate on May 11, 2015 in free and fair elections.”
The statement amplified that “speaking to a predominantly Indo-Guyanese, audience Mr. Jagdeo attempted to inject among them a feeling that they are victims.”

But the recent census, the statement added, has shown that the exodus of Indo-Guyanese was not abated during Mr. Jagdeo’s 12-year tenure as President. Instructively, the single largest exodus went to the United States of America where they live and work under the presidency of an African American.

“Also under Mr. Jagdeo’s presidency Guyana witnessed the incestuous relationship with drug lords that spawned the death of hundreds of young people and several episodes of massacres and assassinations including that of a sitting government Minister,” added the statement.
“Mr. Jagdeo is in fact insulting the intelligence of Indo-Guyanese and all Guyanese who have repudiated him for the pervasive corruption under his regime.

The statement emphasized that the Coalition Government remains committed to stabilizing the Guyanese economy after years of lawlessness, nepotism, corruption, cronyism, mismanagement, misrule and the flagrant misuse of resources.

It was therefore noted that the disclosures of the former President comes at a time when efforts are being made to foster closer relations and achieve a greater level of social cohesion. Moreover, the Coalition Government said that it considers it reprehensible that the Opposition Leader, Mr. Jagdeo chose to sow seeds of division, discord and race hate.

“Though alarming, these hateful divisive utterances are not surprising, as they represent what appears to be a well orchestrated plan of propaganda which has been spewed locally but which is now being taken internationally by the opposition PPP,” the Government statement added.

It was noted too that “All Jaganites will hang their heads in shame that Mr. Jagdeo has descended into the racist cesspit while pulling with him, the PPP that had once boasted of a credible record as a multi-racial party.”

It was highlighted in the statement that Guyana, under the rainbow Coalition of the APNU+AFC has a genuinely multiracial government made up of six political parties and all ethnicities. Guyana has a functioning parliamentary democracy, an independent judiciary and a free press.

“There are no political prisoners in Guyana and unlike under the regime of Mr. Jagdeo no one has been charged with treason. There have been no political killings as happened when the peaceful protestors of Linden were gunned down in 2012,” the statement stressed too.

As such a call was made for the former President “to swallow his spurious racist claims over the fact that under the PPP administration Indo-Guyanese rice farmers were tear-gassed and assaulted and mainly Indo-Guyanese sugar workers were brought to their knees as the Jagdeo-led administration dragged the sugar industry into bankruptcy and indebtedness of over $100 billion.”

According to the statement, “racism is the well known last refuge of the politically desperate, and the Coalition Government calls on all right-thinking and patriotic Guyanese to reject Mr. Jagdeo’s continued attempts at sowing racial divisions in our society.”

FINALLY!!! What took him so long to speak out on the ugly, violent and systemic harassment and discrimination against Indo-Guyanese?

NO! There will NEVER be social cohesion between the two dominant groups, Indo and Afro Guyanese. The history is too ugly, violent and painful. There will ALWAYS be division, distrust, anger, resentment, and hate. Yes, hate – a strong word, and that’s because the history between the two is too ugly to feed any other emotion. A two-state separation is the ONLY solution for Guyana to move forward and progress.

When the PPP governed Guyana, Afro-Guyanese took to lambasting Guyana’s progress by comparing it with Singapore, conveniently overlooking the fact that Singapore does not have a race problem. Yes, their people are descendants of different nationalities – Indian, Chinese – but they’re of the Asian race, with a smattering of Whites mixed in. But such is the inherent hateful and racist ugliness of these Afro-Guyanese.

Social cohesion BS in Guyana has taken the same path as race issue in America. A diversionary tactic to feed racial hostilities to distract from real issues plaguing the economy. This is why there needs to be a two-state separation of Guyana.

The ABC countries not only rigged Guyana’s election outcome when their coalition govt failed to win the election, they also rigged Granger into the PNC leadership position to get him the presidency, hoping his social climbing act of hypogamy would help. But that only led to more chasm. Now Guyana is a degrading freak show on full display for the world to mock.

When WE get our own country, we will not have cause to hound Jagdeo about race issues. Nor will he have cause to bring up race issues because this will become a non issue.

The people who believe Jagdeo are more dangerous than him
Jul 29, 2016 – Kaieteur News- Features / Columnists, Freddie Kissoon

There are presidential candidates contesting the November election in the US who are way above Donald Trump in decency and morality. But the world does not know them. The Green Party in the US will be fielding a presidential candidate, but if you take a poll around the world, almost one hundred percent would say they don’t know the person or ever heard about the candidate.

The reason for that is simple; politicians become household names when they excite people, the press reports on them and the numbers grow. One should never discount the possibility of a Trump victory. His poll ratings are on par with Hillary Clinton. If Trump wins, how could Trump be blamed only? There are foolish people out there in large numbers who believe the incredible, elephantine fictions of Donald Trump. There are humans that listen to Trump and accept Trump’s description of President Obama’s religion as Islam.

Make no mistake, Bharrat Jagdeo played to the gallery when he was in New York. He is a politician in charge of the opposition party in Guyana, and he will observe no ethical and civilized boundary in keeping his career alive. Mr. Jagdeo knows only one route of survival. It is to get Indian people to accept that the PNC leaders who form part of the government do not like Indian people and are discriminating against them. That mantra kept the PPP alive from 1964 to 1985. Once the PNC Government remained in office, the PPP under Dr and Mrs Jagan fed Indians a diet of persecution of Indian people by the PNC Government.

After 23 years in power, the PPP is back in the opposition, and the symphony has been brought out of the attic to perform again. It will not stop. It will not stop because the PPP needs it to survive. In creating racist incitement as he did in New York last week, Jagdeo is not strategizing to win the 2020 election only. A victory is not assured. In-depth analysis of Guyana’s demography does not support a 2020 victory for the PPP.

The racist demagoguery that Jagdeo and the PPP troglodytes are disseminating among Indians is to preserve the existence of the PPP. Make no mistake; if Jagdeo, Rohee, Luncheon, Teixeira are to survive, not win, but just to survive in 2020, they need big votes from the Indian population. Those votes will only come if you keep alive the song of demonizing African Guyanese leaders. Success will come if the listeners believe Jagdeo and his outdated cabal. You may hate Trump, you may hate Jagdeo. But they are no fools.

Trump knows Americans are moody, because complete American domination of the world is waning and they want that back. So he plays on that sentiment. Jagdeo plays on the race card, because it is the only game in town. If Trump is going to lose, Americans have to reject the fictions he peddles. If Guyana is to avoid the chasm of race hate, decent Indians have to get Jagdeo’s gallery to see that Jagdeo is a wicked, evil man manufacturing race hate to remain relevant.

How the Guyanese population deals with the coming crescendo of PPP’s race music will need careful and deep thought, but the rejection movement has to begin as early as yesterday. Do not underestimate Jagdeo. He knows there is a band of race advocates that he can count on. The list includes swamis, novelists, university lecturers, columnists etc. Jagdeo knows that he can appeal to these people. It is these people that we need to assess.

Do they believe Jagdeo? Do they believe this is a man who ought to remain un-prosecuted while he poisons the psychology of the East Indians who are foolish to listen to him? Do they believe this man should be a spokesperson for the Guyanese Indians when this man, after twelve years, did absolutely nothing for the poor East Indians of Guyana? Do they believe this man when they see the financial losses of the sugar industry?

Do they believe this man, when under his twelve-year-old reign, rural Indians were at the mercy of bandits? Aren’t some of them educated people that have access to the internet? They can Google the crime situation in Berbice when Jagdeo was president. They will see what Indians had to endure. Do they believe this man whose twelve-year domination saw rural schools in Indian areas without washroom facilities, windows and steps and he ignored them and built a Marriott Hotel with taxpayers’ money?

As an Indian, I will have more to say about Indian Guyanese and the Jagdeo race wagon.

@Kissoon. ” because complete American domination of the world is waning and they want that back”.
It’s a small point but I think that line is incorrect. It’s a large sector of America, mainly old white men. They have made sacrifices some died/injured in past wars for this country. They held the best positions in industrial America. All that is now gone through globalization and they think immigrants have taken it away from them.

Jagdeo has learn something from Trump.
