Anonymous from Hollis says, “When will guns be out of the picture? Stop the killings; enough is enough. There are too many funerals and not enough graduations. We need to stop killing each other.”

What’s the beef? No one is sure; it might have been ‘he said, he said or they said.’ But no one could say precisely what was said. Two kids had a fight in class. It got so bad that the Dean had to intervene. When pressed to say what caused the fight they didn’t know for sure. But the ‘homies’ those ever reliable and dependable friends, ‘kept amping it up.’

Before long, it’s time to leave school and to make one’s way into the real world. This is the world of grown-ups in which there are bills to pay. The classroom, with its teachers, principals and counsellors is a faraway place. But the beef is not.

The trouble is, there are so many Guyanese out in Region #11, who just love to cuss-up those of us back in GT, some even saying, “Me would neva goh back deh”, while there is so much wrongs happening in Richmond Hill and other locations where Guyanese reside in Region #11.

Richmond Hill was one of my favorite places years back in New York. I had many friends there who did well. I encourage some to move south when I was about leaving. Most of the guys remained. It was evident that the community was deteriorating like much of New York. The young people are an alien group to us old Guyanese….especially the boys. They are becoming Americanised in a frightening sad way.
