Let’s Face It – The Anti-Immigration Rhetoric Is Not Only About Illegal Immigrants!

News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. Nov. 11, 2016:Millions of American voters are still coming to grips with the fact that a racist, a bigot, a xenophobe, a demagogue, a misogynist, a narcissist and a dummy is now the next President of the United States. All hail Hitler!

So now we are told we all need to accept the results and come together in a Kumbaya moment and magically heal. Forget the plain hate, rancor, anti-immigrant vitriol, the sexism and the bile that was stirred throughout the vicious election campaign run by Donald J. Trump. Now we are to expect it will somehow magically slither back into Pandora’s Box “Bigly” and “Beautifully.”

Wrong! From where I sit, Trump did not simply sow hate but he has now empowered those living in ignorance to be able to express it. Now Pandora’s Box is wide open and that’s frightening.

It’s already started. In San Diego, a Muslim student at San Diego State University was robbed and may have had her car stolen Wednesday by two men who made comments about President-elect Donald Trump and Muslims, according to police and university officials, who called the attack a hate crime.

In a separate incident Wednesday, a female student at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette was beaten, robbed and had her hijab ripped off by two men, one of them wearing a white “Trump” hat, police and university officials said.

The attacks occurred within hours of each other on a day marked by widespread protests over Trump’s startling victory against Hillary Clinton in Tuesday’s presidential election.

Expect more of this because Trump has tapped into what experts call the institutional racism that exists in America and the institutional racists who bought into Trump’s “Build A Wall” plan and the “Deport the 11 million” fallacy. They all hide behind the claim that it’s not immigrants and legal immigration they hate but those who come in illegally.

But that’s a BIG FAT LIE! “BIGLY!”

The reality is that many blue collared White men in America, without college degrees and even some with degrees, feel they are fast becoming the minority in a country where Whites were always the majority and in control. Brown and black immigrants have added to the African American population to push the United States to a place where the minority is fast becoming the majority and that is scary to many, especially in rural White America.

making-america-hate-again

It is no wonder that they opened their arms in embrace to Trump and his rantings because he attacked the people who they feel are taking their power away – not black Americans alone but black and brown immigrants.

All immigrants – not just those they claim fallaciously are “Pouring over the border like thieves in the night!”

They hide behind the smoke screen of upholding laws, protecting the border and keeping out the “illegals” but the reality is that the hate is palpable for all black and brown immigrants – legal or not – because they are leading to the darkening of America. If these undocumented immigrants were mostly White then it would be a different story all together.

We have seen that played out over and over again. Last week in Wisconsin, a student studying legally in this country but born in Saudi Arabia, was attacked without provocation and beaten so badly by a group of White men that he died the next day. What did this immigrant student do? He did not sneak over the border – no he was here legally on a US student visa. He is believed to have been targeted and attacked because of the way he looked – foreign, black and Muslim.

All of the groups that Trump riled up his ignorant base to see as threats to their vision of a “Great America.”

The 2016 Presidential campaign of Donald Trump has proven that even if all the undocumented immigrants are deported from America, immigrants and their descendants in this country will still face hatred simply because of the color of their skin; their accent, their culture, or the way they look.

The Daily Telegraph’s front page after Trump’s surprising win sums up the feeling of many globally.

And that’s a FACT!

So to those immigrants who voted for Trump and who like to claim they were born here or came legally and did “the right thing” unlike the undocumented migrants – think again! Because at the end of the day you are immigrant and to the growing number of people seeing nothing but WHITE in this country right now, that makes you just as guilty as if you were “illegal.”

If this woman feels this way, this would be the time to pack her bags and leave this country. It is people like her that makes this country racially divided. Bye the way, yes I was born in Guyana.

Tulsie…”Mr. Trump won by 10% of the popular vote the American Voters are never wrong”

Hope I am not wrong but I am hearing from almost everyone that Hillary had a majority of the popular votes. You are the exception. Explain your analysis.

The author boldly laments that a “racist, a bigot, a xenophobe, a demagogue, a misogynist, a narcissist and a dummy” will be the next president of the United States. She appears morbidly terrified that a Trump presidency would (or could) inevitably lead to an intensification of hate crimes and violence against people of color across America.

Felicia Persaud’s prognostication appears to be way over the top. One must not forget that America is a nation governed by law and order and one that adheres to the principles of the rule of law – as opposed to an autocracy. Although there may be isolated incidents of hate crimes (and that can happen at any time), it is highly unlikely to reach epic, alarming proportions. That is hyperbole.

Felicia audaciously labels Trump a “dummy” and his base as “ignorant”. Well, name-calling has never been a solid base on which to mount an effective, convincing argument. It almost always defeats the purpose. For a dummy, Mr. Trump has done remarkably well for himself. And that bodes well for ‘dummies’ everywhere.

It even adds new meaning to ‘dumbness’ ’cause even a dummy could dream big, reach for the stars and ascends the presidency of the greatest nation the world has ever known.

“As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”

Trump was not expatriate Guyanese American choice for President!

Hillary Clinton was projected by all and sundry to be the overwhelming favorite to win the Presidential election. She was the popular choice amongst immigrant communities, not least in West Indians and Guyanese, all across America-especially here in the largest concentration of expatriates-“Little Guyana” or Richmond Hill and environs. Clinton’s defeat surely was not due to money, effort and voter outreach, because she outspent Trump and received more votes nationally than him.

So how come Donald Trump won, precipitating one of the most stunning upsets in history and prompting unprecedented widespread protests in a country which touts its democratic processes and readily accepts election results?

Clinton said the FBI is to blame for her loss after its embattled Director Comey sent a letter to Congress based on vagaries and speculation only days before the election, announcing he was reinstating an investigation into whether she mishandled classified information when she used a private email server while being Secretary of State.

Although Comey announced a week later that he had reviewed emails and continued to believe she should not be prosecuted, the political damage had already been done, and the die was cast for Clinton’s defeat. Like the Titanic, her candidacy was doomed to sink in spectacular fashion. In contrast to her primary rival Bernie Sanders, Trump went for the jugular, and an exemplary trailblazer’s life and legacy has been tarnished and truncated prematurely.

Here in “Little Guyana,” thousands came out to vote for Hillary in record numbers. However, our hopes were destroyed-again! We have relived another painful loss, and a reminder that we are a nation of double standards. The same FBI Department crushed our efforts to attain recognition and empowerment, just as they did when civil rights leader and community activist attorney Albert Baldeo ran for public office in 2010, when they overreached an impossible theory that Baldeo’s use of his own money in a City Council election to repay his loans was a federal crime. Baldeo was acquitted of the underlying charges, but his non-peer Manhattan jury, after a long deadlock, convicted him of obstructing crimes he did not commit, a legal and illogical conundrum.

Similarly, the fallacy that the FBI’s actions are as American as apple pie, has perfunctorily gutted a great woman’s efforts, and we will be the losers for their egregious actions for generations. It is time for Congress to rein in such perverse actions of federal law enforcement officials, who are already immune from accountability.
