Mary Ferreira

She is an expert at the moving image. Her films have made a difference in the lives of others and she is widely recognized as a leading filmmaker in her field. This young lady is Mary Ferreira.

Mary is a trailblazer that has gone in the trenches to bring to the world some of the stories that otherwise might have been forgotten. Who is Mary Ferreira and why is her work causing waves in the international community?  Mary was born in Charlotte Street in Georgetown, Guyana. Her mom is Bhagwanti Jagdeo and her dad is Harold Jagdeo. Mary is the sixth child in a family of nine. She attended St. Agnes Primary School, and later St. Roses High School.   

Her best subjects were literature, and Macbeth and Julius Caesar, were her favorite plays. Mary acted in a couple of shows as well. A number of teachers left their mark on Mary. Sisters Celine Searwar and Hazel Anthony, for instance, instilled in the young Mary the importance of volunteerism.
