Oppose the anti-immigrant legislation and rhetoric – By Albert Baldeo

Proposed legislation, like the No Sanctuary for Criminals Act and Kate’s Law, will force sanctuary cities like New York City to forego sanctuary jurisdiction protections and further criminalize repeated denials of entry into the U.S., making it harder for people coming here on employment visas, for family and medical needs, or seeking asylum to be treated fairly. These laws will not make us safer, improve our broken immigration system, or improve relationships between immigrant communities and law enforcement officials. In fact, they are most un-American.     I live in a sanctuary city that’s well reflected in the apartment complex where I live. As an immigrant, I can change preconceived ideas about non-white immigrants in the way I live and interact with others.
