Q-12

Members of the Karow Indigenous Group from the South Rupununi Savannah, Region Number 9, at the Guyana Cultural Association Family Fun Day in Brooklyn, New York, on Sunday September 3, 2017. These Guyanese hail from a remote village in the deep south of the country, which has no paved streets, no electricity; no building higher than one story and no cars as far as modern life goes. But they kept the Golden Arrowhead flying high, as they did their Indigenous dances and displayed other Indigenous cultural norms of their heritage. Before this trip, some of them had never been to Georgetown, and none of them had ever flown in a jet aircraft. They conducted themselves with dignity, decorum and charm wherever they went in the United States. I felt so proud of them as I took this photograph, and so many others.
