Donald Trump ought to be impeached and removed from office. This isn’t what I thought two months ago, when the impeachment inquiry began. I argued that the evidence fell short of the standards of a prosecutable criminal act. I also feared impeachment might ultimately help Trump politically, as it had helped Bill Clinton in 1998. That second worry might still prove true.

But if the congressional testimonies of Marie Yovanovitch, Bill Taylor, Gordon Sondland, Alexander Vindman and especially Fiona Hill make anything clear, it’s that the president’s highest crime isn’t what he tried to do to, or with, Ukraine.

GAWU today said that GuySuCo has told it that it is planning for a new 55,000-tonne white sugar plant at Albion. The sugar union said this was disclosed by GuySuCo at a wide-ranging meeting on November 20, 2019

A statement by GAWU follows:

After more than a year of seeking to meet the GuySuCo about its plans to engender the viability of the miniaturized sugar industry, the GAWU was finally able to receive a presentation from the Corporation on November 20, 2019. The existence of a plan came to light following President David Granger’s address to the National Assembly in October, 2018. At that time, the President had disclosed that a plan was being developed.

The impeachment inquiry into U.S. President Donald Trump has pulled my homeland, Ukraine, into the spotlight, and more Americans are talking about it than ever before. Yet few see it clearly. Some still call it — wrongly — “the Ukraine”, and few seem willing to spell the name of our capital the way that we do, which is “Kyiv”. Others foster grave misconceptions regarding Ukraine’s multi-century struggle against Russian colonial rule or about its continuing war against a Russian invasion.

Many Americans point out to me that the scandal involving Trump’s misconduct in a call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will never really be about Ukraine: It is all about the integrity of democracy in the United States.

Guyana: Extradited Marcus Bisram charged with murder; remanded to prison

Marcus Brian Bisram, who was finally returned to Guyana on Wednesday evening (November 20) after fighting his extradition from the United States for over two years, was yesterday remanded to prison after he was charged with procuring and commanding the 2016 murder of Faiyaz Narinedatt.

Bisram appeared before Magistrate Renita Singh at the Whim Magistrate’s Court minutes before 1 pm yesterday and was charged with counselling, pro-curing and commanding Harri Paul Parsram,  Radesh Motie, Niran Yacoob, Diodath Datt and Orlando Dickie to murder Narinedatt between 31 October, 2016 and 1 November, 2016, at Number 70 Village, Corentyne.
