World War 2 Veteran Benjamin Durant, familiarly called Uncle Benjie, smiles as he hears President
David Granger shower praise on those who served the Nation in a military capacity. It was at a ceremony
at the Legionaries on Remembrance Day, November 10, 2019. While many Guyanese show respect for
our Elders, sadly, there are those who display a lack of respect for the Elders in Guyana, referring to
them as “dinosaurs”, and saying that “they must go one side” as a very powerful and influential
political individual stated in the presence of many youngsters. Uncle Benjie celebrated his 101 Birthday
