CANADA: Early history of Black Canadians in Toronto’s neighbourhoods – The Weather Network

Isabella O’Malley, M.Env.Sc – Reporter – February 14th 2022 – The Weather Network

The Weather Network is headquartered in Oakville, Ontario, a city with hundreds of years of rich history and culture. In celebration of Black History Month, we would like to recognize the early history of Black Canadians in the 1800s.

In the 1800s, many Black Canadians used their skills to cultivate the land, build communities, and establish businesses.

Historians estimate that 30,000 to 40,000 people escaping slavery arrived in Canada through the Underground Railroad, which began in the 1830s. According to the U.S. National Park Service, they travelled in the darkness after sunset and used the North Star, which is most visible in the evenings during late winter and spring, as a northward guide to freedom.

Several cities in southern Ontario that are close to the United States, such as St. Catherines, were stations on the Underground Railroad where Harriet Tubman led African Americans who were escaping slavery.

USA: Football: Los Angeles Rams vs Cincinnati Bengals – Super Bowl LVI (2022)

| Super Bowl LVI Game Highlights – Video – Some Comments on the YouTube entry:

Hats off to the Rams. Well deserving. Stafford spent so many years on a mediocre Lions team. LA finally got their Rams back a couple years ago that left in 1994. This was a feel good story.

Cooper Kupp cemented himself as an LA legend in one season, and proved his doubters wrong in the biggest stage of all, congrats to our MVP

Congrats to the Rams! I am proud of what the Bengals did this year. Not many thought they would go to the SB, so congrats to them for accomplishing so much.

GUYANA: Eddy Grant’s ‘Electric Avenue’ featured in this year’s Super Bowl + Video

The iconic Eddy Grant is a proud Guyanese.

Iconic Guyanese artiste, Eddy Grant has given his fans yet another reason to brag as he continues to display his talent on the international stage. This year, Grant, a singer/song writer, was privileged to have his song used in one of the advertisements played during the airing of the Super Bowl, viewed by millions globally.

Since its emergence in the late 1960’s, the United States (US) playoffs would see the best teams in the football sport meeting to defend or battle for the title, and given the importance of the game to the US, millions of dollars would be pumped into various aspects of the event.
