• Former President Bharrat Jagdeo on Thursday declared that he had nothing to do with convicted drug lord, Shaheed ‘Roger’ Khan or a phantom gang and said if he is found guilty of crimes here, he should be jailed again.
• “We are not afraid of Roger Khan’s release because we had nothing to do with Roger Khan and if he did crime in Guyana he must face the consequences too. We’re not afraid of that,” Jagdeo said.

Khan, who is expected to be released on July 8, 2019 from a US jail for trafficking cocaine to that country, had stated in several newspaper statements before he had been captured in neighbouring Suriname that he had prevented the Jagdeo administration from being toppled by a coup.

He has been accused of marginalizing Afro-Guyanese and sponsoring a “death squad”, which “killed over 400 black people.” It was even said that under his rule, Guyanese of African ancestry were “stifled.” But former President Bharrat Jagdeo is saying that this is not true. In fact, he is calling for a “fact based” debate with African leaders on his record regarding the treatment of Afro-Guyanese.
Jagdeo said this at a recent press conference.

The former President, who now operates as PPP’s General Secretary, said that A Partnership for National Unity, which has as its main party, the People’s National Congress—knows that it cannot now return to young people—“after three years of neglect—and tell them how much the partnership cares. Jagdeo said, “They cannot talk about corruption, they cannot promise jobs so they are coming with racial rhetoric.”

Leader of the Opposition, Bharrat Jagdeo, sought to rubbish the pronouncement by Attorney General, Basil Williams, that former Member of Parliament, Charrandass Persaud, is unqualified to serve in the National Assembly because of his status as a dual citizen.

Williams, in a press conference held hours before Jagdeo’s, cited Article 155 (1) (a) of the Constitution, which states: “No person shall be qualified for election as a member of the National Assembly who is, by virtue of his own act, under any acknowledgement of allegiance, obedience, or adherence to a foreign power or state.”

The Deputy Chairman of the main opposition People’s Progressive Party (PPP) in Linden, Akanni Blair has decided to join A New United Guyana (ANUG), less than three days after it announced its existence.

Blair confirmed his move in an interview with Demerara Waves Online News, saying that while the governing David Granger-led coalition was not expected to win the next genera elections, he is worried that if the PPP wins again the country could end up being a one-party state like Cuba if there is no constitutional reform.

Assuring that the PPP/C’s presidential candidate for the 2020 general elections will be named before year end, the party’s leader Bharrat Jagdeo yesterday  (17 Dec 2018) said that criminal charges will have no impact on the selection process.

Earlier in the year, Jagdeo had said that the candidate would have been named before the November 12 local government elections. It was later said that this had been pushed back until after the budget debates and consideration of the estimates. The budget was passed last Friday and since then there has been no word coming from the opposition’s camp as to who will be the presidential candidate. Earlier this year, a possible third term as president for Jagdeo was ruled out by the Caribbean Court of Justice.

Local businessman, Robert Badal has declared that this is the last time he will respond to former President, Bharrat Jagdeo, who is “fading into insignificance.”

However, in his “last” response, Badal insisted that he manages all his businesses “above board.” Badal is the owner of Pegasus Hotel and the majority shareholder of Guyana Stockfeeds Limited.

The fallout between Jagdeo and Badal goes way back. However, it was recently provoked when Jagdeo realized that Government lost 31 percent of ownership it had in Guyana Stockfeeds.

Veteran politician, Ralph Ramkarran thinks that Charles Ramson may have interrupted and obstructed a plan that was already schemed within the People’s Progressive Party for one or a few individuals to unilaterally decide on the party’s presidential candidate.

Ramkarran, a former long-standing member of the PPP, made his view known in his most recent column.

There, he acknowledged that Ramson recently announced publicly that he would seek the PPP’s nomination to be its presidential candidate for the 2020 general elections. But, Jagdeo chided Ramson and said that he deviated from party principles.

The social activist said Guyanese still remember the many incidents that occurred under the Jagdeo presidency including the shooting of protesters and the murder of over four hundred persons during the crime spree. He said if there is anyone who should be praying for forgiveness, it would have to be Jagdeo.

The brother of Minister David Patterson was arrested for narcotics in Grenada. Before that, there was a celebration in the New Amsterdam prison where prohibited items were in use. Bharrat Jagdeo took some nasty swipes at Minister Patterson. The Indian Arrival Committee (IAC) took some nasty swipes too at Khemraj Ramjattan, Minister of Security.

Jagdeo thinks Patterson should do the right thing insinuating that he should resign though Jagdeo stated that the Opposition Leader is not calling on Patterson to resign. The IAC is demanding Ramjattan’s resignation. Both Jagdeo and the IAC are creatures from another world that the Guyanese people need to read up on. Here are some notes about them.

Maybe there are persons in Guyana who do not know the connection of Bharrat Jagdeo to the newspaper owned by Bobby Ramroop. Kaieteur News on several occasions has openly stated that Mr. Jagdeo is co-owner of the Guyana Times. I believe he is. Mr. Jagdeo then can place any distortion or mischief or propaganda or fake news or alternative facts or personal venom in the paper.

When there appears to be a news item in the Jagdeo/Ramroop newspaper attacking the President of GAWU, Komal Chand, the poisonous statements against Chand suggested that it was a hatchet job arranged by Jagdeo and others in the PPP. The reporting was opaque. For example, the newspaper said it interviewed several workers but there were no specific descriptions – names of sugar workers, estates visited.
