Exploration Guyana: video

Director: Charles Montier | Producer: Charles Montier
Genre: Documentary | Produced In: 2011 | Story Teller’s Country: United Kingdom

Synopsis: Guyana is the size of Britain, with just two percent of the population. Its towns are clustered on the coast, so travel inland and there’s nothing but virgin tropical forest. A single road cuts through the jungle to reach the South and there are few airstrips, so the only way of exploring the interior is via its network of rivers. As a result, few people venture into the interior, leaving it unspoiled and pristine.

In February 2009, Charles Montier and two Patamona Indians set off into this wild environment, to attempt the very first descent of the Potaro River, from its source down to its mouth. Relying on old maps and their own wit, they would climb an untouched 2,000-meter Tepui, navigate their way through treacherous rapids, encounter mining camps and take on the mighty Kaieteur Falls, the world’s highest single drop waterfall.    See the video below:        Continue reading

Our New ‘Tough Oil’ World – The Truth About Gas Prices

Our New ‘Tough Oil’ World

Michael T. Klare, Op-Ed: “Oil prices are now higher than they have ever been—except for a few frenzied moments before the global economic meltdown of 2008. Many immediate factors are contributing to this surge, including Iran’s threats to block oil shipping in the Persian Gulf, fears of a new Middle Eastern war and turmoil in energy-rich Nigeria. Some of these pressures could ease in the months ahead, providing temporary relief at the gas pump. But the principal cause of higher prices—a fundamental shift in the structure of the oil industry—cannot be reversed, and so oil prices are destined to remain high for a long time to come.”

The Truth About Gas Prices

Bill Scher, Op-Ed: Conservatives are betting that a President Obama can’t succeed in talking straight about gas prices the way Candidate Obama did. First, they are exaggerating the price spike itself, saying that under Obama’s presidency, prices have jumped from $1.83 to $3.70 per gallon. That is technically true, but remember, in the summer of 2008 gas was over $4 a gallon. Prices briefly plummeted below $2 per gallon right before Obama’s inauguration because there was this little cataclysmic global economic meltdown that shattered consumer demand.

Dubai Skyscraper With Rotating Floors

Dubai Skyscraper With Rotating Floors

This has got to be the coolest thing EVER!!! A skyscraper that spins! Prefab sections joined together creating the first rotating building in the world, where each floor spins on its own axis.

Dubai is building amazing structures using the latest building techniques.  This is just one example.

The Da Vinci Tower (also known as Dynamic Architecture Building) is a proposed 313 m (1,027 ft), 68-floor tower in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The tower is expected to be architecturally innovative for several reasons. Uniquely, each floor will be able to rotate independently. This will result in a constantly changing shape of the tower. Each floor will rotate a maximum of one full rotation in 90 minutesThe entire tower will be powered from turbines and solar panels, and five other buildings in the vicinity will also be provided with electricity. The turbines will be located between each of the rotating floors. They will generate 1,200,000 kilowatt-hours of energy from the movement of the floors, and the solar panels will be located on the roof.   Wiki…. See video below:
