Guyanese Films Launched in New York on August 21, 2011

Eight short films, CineGuyana Set, produced under the President’s Film Endowment 2011 are being launched on the International Stage on Sunday at The Billie Holiday Theatre, New York, the organisation announced.

The New York Film Festival organised by The Guyana Cultural Association of New York is expected to attract hundreds of Guyanese from the Diaspora. Special invitees include Spike Lee and Third World Newsreel while it is likely that His Excellency, President Jagdeo may attend.

A15-member team led by Dr. Paloma Mohamed, Manager of the Endowment and comprising Directors, writers and production crew from CineGuyana and students from The Centre of Communication Studies, University of Guyana is in New York for this prestigious event.

The films backyard, the bottle, beached, the encounter, tradition, three cards, hope & luck beat handsome are being prepared for viewing locally and internationally. They will tour across Guyana during September and October while internationally; in addition to the NY Film Festival they will be exposed at a variety of fora including Warwick University in the UK prestigious International Arts and Environmental Conference in September and The Trinidad & Tobago Film Festival in November.
