‘The sickeningly racist Guyana Chronicle editorial has been thankfully, if not resoundingly, condemned’  ….   by Imran Khan

The sickeningly racist Guyana Chronicle editorial has been thankfully, if not resoundingly, condemned. There has been some response but a half-hearted apology and talk of resignation notwithstanding, this bold declaration by the Chronicle, must open the nation’s eyes to the gravity of the racism cancer being perpetuated in our midst. And it is being cultivated by those who benefit from it.

So well have they thought it has flourished that they have now become emboldened to formalize it in a written declaration to the nation. Our sensitivities have been repulsed by the printed words but these words are the manifestation of the conviction of swathes of Guyanese who have been so indoctrinated through bottom-house engagements.

These are not, we must not be led to accept, the isolated rantings of a lone crusader. To quote Damian ‘Junior Gong’ Marley, “this is real”. We will recall the “bottom of the social ladder” comment, the marginalization, the discrimination and the now token acceptance that Afro-Guyanese are second, even third class citizens in their own country.    Continue reading

PPPC hate speech in Guyana Chronicle Editorial should be rejected by all citizens – commentary by Brutal Facts

The Guyana Chronicle editorial on July 3rd  (see below), allowed us a peek into the mindset of the ruling PPPC party. As evidence of corruption continues to be revealed, citizens of Guyana are slowly realizing how they have been disenfranchised by this cabal for the past 19 years. Every dollar stolen from the Guyana treasury is a dollar taken away from better roads, improved education, running water, crime, healthcare, more jobs and government’s ability to carry out their mandate of improving the lives of Guyanese citizens through development.

The corruption is so pervasive and the leaders so entitled that they display an unapologetic boldness in revealing the spoils of their nefarious activities. From the ever growing concrete mansions to the multiple North American vacations, to the luxury cars, multiple foreign and local investments to the ongoing acquisition of prime properties in Guyana, the corruption continues unabated; So much so that the latest defector from the PPPC party, Mr Ralph Ramkarran exhausted himself fighting against this tide. He simply gave up and walked away.  Continue reading

Useless and counterproductive protests – Editorial

Useless and counterproductive protests

Guyana Chronicle – Editorial –  Thursday, 08 December 2011

OUR recent national elections were pronounced upon as free and fair by both local and international observers and all political parties, except one, accepted the results without any difficulties. The President and his Cabinet have been sworn in and they have assumed their respective offices. It is therefore baffling what A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) and its supporters are protesting about.

The only logical motive behind these protests could be to put the government under pressure with the hope of destabilising it, because counting the ballots at the place of poll in the presence of representatives of all parties and electoral officials eliminates any possibility of fraud or rigging. Admittedly, there could be some inaccuracies because of human error, but these could be picked up and corrected easily and in any case these inaccuracies would hardly likely have any bearing on the outcome of the elections.       Continue reading
